The tarnished plant bug (TPB, Lygus lineolaris) is one of the most damaging pests on cotton. Control of this insect relies almost exclusively on chemical insecticides. To better understand insecticide resistance development and mechanism, a resistant population was collected from a cotton field. TPBs were treated with four representative insecticides for four classes of conventional insecticides. Novel microarray and functional analyses were applied to analyze gene expressions of 6,688 genes. Results indicated that the population has developed multiple/cross resistance with a particular set of up-regulated genes for each insecticide.
