In certain situations such as low income housing, crowded dwellings, multi-story apartment buildings, strip mall restaurants, commercial kitchens, etc. German cockroach infestations may become a chronic problem. Our recent study in the field suggests that such infestations can be controlled by using right combination of products and baiting strategies to deliver the required quantities of active ingredients to the pest populations. Right strategies also help in addressing the resistance management and bait aversion issues. Understanding the extent of the problem, its origin, and previous treatment histories helped us to device the right strategies. We believe that since it is not always easy to come up with a new active ingredient therefore future of urban pest management is highly dependent on optimization of formulations, baits, monitoring and delivery systems.
