Researchers play a critical role in shaping our society through science messaging and advocacy. Extension training and public outreach are the most common ways scientists broadly share their knowledge and expertise; however, the outcomes or benefits of such efforts are often local, limited, and short-lived. Working with industry partners and legislators at the state and federal levels can have longer more impactful returns. This presentation shares tips and considerations for researchers to become more effective advocates of science and highlights the balance and care needed to find common ground and build alliances.
