Poster: The bug picture: Making entomology accessible with comics and zines

Insects and other arthropods are often reviled by the general public. I aim to change that through accessible scientific communication. Zines, comics, and other media are an excellent way to make arthropods approachable (or even adorable) to people who aren’t exposed to them outside of negative contexts. From a webcomic titled “Outside Bones” that zooms into the lives of various invertebrates to a zine of Tarot card spreads themed around arthropods, I’ve worked on a variety of projects with this goal in mind. I’ll be talking about my creative process as well as showing a portfolio of examples (and handing out some zines!).
