Many wood-boring beetles are major invasive pests of hardwood forests around the world. Species of genus Agrilus (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) are of particular concern due to their ability to survive in wood products. Early detection of new invasive beetles at ports of entry requires effective lures to attract a wide variety of species to traps. Currently (Z)-3-hexenol is used as a generic lure as it is a plant volatile known to be attractive to many Agrilus species. We investigated using (Z)-3-hexenal in combination with the alcohol-based compound since it is a closely related plant volatile that may be attractive to different species.
