Predicting parasitism of pear psylla by Trechnites insidiosus

Trechnites insidiosus is the primary parasitoid of Cacopsylla pyricola. Both insects are not native to the United States. Cacopsylla pyricola was first noticed as an emerging pest in the 1940s and efforts to introduce T. insidiosus began in the 1960s. After successful establishment of T. insidiosus in the Pacific Northwest research has continued on the efficacy and impact of T. insidiosus on C. pyricola. In this study we developed models to predict parasitism rates using artificial intelligence machine learning. We gathered data on T. insidiosus and C. pyricola adult and immature abundance, parasitism and C. pyricola degree days. We are presenting several models based on these variables that can predict parasitism rates with accuracy within 10% of 95% of all observations. Preliminary information on a grower tool will also be presented.
