Spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is an invasive pest of many soft fruits including sweet cherries. Management of this pest relies heavily on insecticides, with a substantial economic and environmental impact. Sustainable non-pesticide integrated pest management strategies are urgently needed. Classical biological control using parasitoids is a promising area of research for this invasive pest. In the Columbia River Gorge region, a complete understanding of the parasitoids attacking D. suzukii is lacking. Recent discoveries of adventive populations Ganaspis brasiliensis and Leptopilina japonica here in the Pacific Northwest demonstrated the need for a coordinated sampling of parasitoids across this important sweet cherry growing region. Survey results discussed.
