Use of Trelona® AG to control Formosan subterranean termites infesting oak trees in New Orleans, LA

Above-ground bait stations (AGs) composed of plastic boxes containing cellulose bait matrices incorporated with novaluron (active ingredient in Trelona® bait) were placed directly onto active infestations of the Formosan subterranean termite (FST), Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki. A total of six trees infested with FSTs were utilized (3 untreated controls, 3 Trelona AG treatments). AGs associated with the untreated control trees exhibited feeding and activity throughout the 12-month study. Feeding on the bait within the Trelona AG stations was observed through 112 days post installation. FST’s associated with the Trelona AG treated trees were not observed in the treated trees at 230 and 378 days post treatment. Above ground termite bait stations offer an excellent option for eliminating tree infesting subterranean termites.
