Assessment of potential effects of mCry51Aa2 protein on nymphs of Orius insidiosus under direct dietary feeding and trophic feeding scenarios

Bayer CropScience LP has developed insect-protected cotton Bollgard 3 ThryvOn which produces a modified Cry51Aa2 (hereafter mCry51Aa2) and Vip3Aa19, Cry1Ac, and Cry2Ab2 proteins. The mCry51Aa2 protein has a very high insecticidal activity in certain hemipteran and thysanopteran insect pests. Therefore, the Bollgard 3 ThryvOn cotton became the first ever Bt cotton for piecing and sucking pests. The Bollgard 3 ThryvOn cotton also provided efficient protection from the feeding damage caused by lepidopteran insect pests in cotton. In this presentation we will discuss studies where we assessed potential effects of mCry51Aa2 protein on nymphs of Orius insidiosus under direct dietary feeding and trophic feeding scenarios.
