(2nd Place) Sub-lethal effects of selected insecticides used on spotted-wing drosophila control in exotic and resident parasitoids

Integrating biological control along with chemical control is a key approach to facilitate effective and sustainable integrated pest management programs. The exotic larval parasitoid Ganaspis brasiliensis (Ihering) (Figitidae) and resident pupal parasitoid Pachycrepoideus vindemiae (Rondani) (Pteromalidae) are the two promising natural enemies of the invasive economic pest spotted wing drosophila (SWD) (Drosophila suzukii Matsumura (Drosophilidae). A laboratory study was conducted in a completely randomized design (CRD) to estimate the sub-lethal of common insecticides that are used to control the field population of SWD on these parasitoids. We exposed the parasitoids to 10 treatments, using LD₁₀ of six conventional insecticides, three organic insecticides, and a control to estimate the effect on sex ratio, longevity, parasitism preference, and parasitism success. Preliminary data show that the females that survived after exposure to LD₁₀ of most of the chemicals produced a population of sex-biased progenies with variable longevity, a lower preference to oviposit, and the progenies of exposed females took a longer time to reach their adulthood in both parasitoid species.
