The saturniid genus Antheraea is an important group of moths, well known for their production of Tussar silk. Tussar silk is highly valued for their gold color and texture, but production of this silk is still limited. Furthermore, little is known about how the genotype of these moths impacts silk phenotype. Thus far, only two genomes of the genus have been sequenced, the Tropical tasar silkworm (Antheraea mylitta) and the Chinese Oak silk moth (Antheraea pernyi). We sequenced a new genome for the Polyphemus moth (Antheraea polyphemus) using the PacBio SEQUEL IIe with Hi-Fi long reads. This genome will provide a framework for answering key evolutionary questions about their silk, particularly the genes involved in producing fibroins. Further inquiries could include looking into the genes involved in their camouflaging eyespots.
