Diaperini Latreille, 1802 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Diaperini) is a cosmopolitan tribe of 43 darkling beetle genera. Members of the tribe are most often characterized by the crenulate ridge on the outer margin of the hindtibiae and the male genitalia. Most members of this tribe are frequently conspicuously associated with fungus and deadwood. Although members of this group have been studied, representative phylogenetic assessments of the tribe including taxa from aross the tribe’s cosmopolitan distribution have not yet been explored. Here we present a preliminary phylogenetic analysis of Diaperini along with a discussion of the neotropical genus Nilio which has remained taxonomically impeded for over 100 years. Our preliminary phylogenetic analyses support the inclusion of Nilio within the Diaperini.
