A theremin is a musical instrument that uses the changes in the capacitance created when an arm is moved closer or further from the instrument. The most common way of creating a capacitor is to place two metallic plates next to each other. By placing two metal plates about 6 inches in diameter and a quarter inch thick about half an inch away from each other it will create a capacitor that can be attached to a theremin to create a musical note. When a cockroach crawls between the two plates it changes the capacitance of the plates and therefore the note that the theremin plays. The system should be able to specifically target insects.
