In this presentation, I'll share some of my experiences as a professor at an undergraduate-only institute mentoring students through the graduate school application process. For my students, many of them who are first-generation college students and underrepresented minorities in STEM fields, the application process is unnecessarily mysterious and stressful. I'll present some strategies for unveiling the "secret curriculum" of the application process, including how to have meaningful discussions about graduate-school life, drafting a timeline for the application process, helping students write personal statements, and other aspects.
