Predicting economic losses from generalist pests can be challenging due to the large volumes of data required to parse complex effects of abiotic and biotic factors on pest ecology. In this talk, we merge ecoinformatics and genomics approaches to link records of pest injury with environmental predictors and to characterize dispersal and feeding patterns of a cryptic pest species complex in peanut agroecosystems in Georgia, USA. We propose that this “eco-genomics” approach is useful for rapidly generating ecological knowledge about continually evolving pest complexes that threaten the sustainability of agriculture.
