Entomologist University of Massachusetts Amherst, Massachusetts
There are well over 200 insect and mite pests of trees and shrubs in Massachusetts (both native and non-native) that land managers may encounter. New (invasive) insects arrive on a regular basis. University Extension programs play an essential role in supporting the professionals that are managing these insects on a daily basis. This includes knowledge of basic insect biology and life cycles, monitoring techniques, and integrated pest management options, including chemical management when necessary. Educating professionals and being a resource for them throughout the year is humbling and not a small task. Our stakeholders are fantastic, passionate, and very well-educated individuals who are hungry for as much information as we can provide.
