I have led the Vector-Borne Diseases Control Program in Hidalgo State, México, for six years. This is a personal achievement for a woman in México. With my background in genetics, biodiversity, and conservation, I consider myself a population ecologist. Because of this, I see sustainable development as a unique way to reach global health through the three shackles of the chain of One Health, including ecosystem, animal, and human health. I joined the Biology of Vector-borne Diseases (BVBD) course in 2021 and it was a watershed moment in my professional practice. The course provided relevant professional training in vector biology, including basic concepts to emphasize deeper analytical models, turning theoretical concepts to practice with discussions and case studies given by professionals who were connected to these cases. This foundation helped me to build a path to follow and a strong supportive network. In Hidalgo State, I´m applying these concepts to improve the living conditions of my people and share with my staff. We also deliver Virtual Talks to upgrade team knowledge, with many presentations by BVBD colleagues. I have also used course components in my trainings and to create a certification program with the Autonomous University of Hidalgo State.
