Insects and Education

Entomology impacts virtually every aspect of human life, but many people fear and believe falsehoods about arthropods. As a result it is essential to explore how to combat this trend of ignorance through education. For this research pre and post worksheets were given to 5^th students before and after an interactive insect presentation. The students drew what they thought an insect looked like both before and after the presentation to gauge learning. A modified rubric based on a Likert-Scale was used to determine any numerical changes in the drawings. After completing statistical analysis, it was shown that there was a significant difference between the pre and post worksheet drawings. The goal of this research is to examine if education can positively impact a child’s understanding of insects. Since entomology is a vital field with few employed in it, it is crucial to examine and create different ways to promote entomology in educational settings.
